JAY EDLIN STONE: May 21, 1923 - February 5, 2017
Jay Stone passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home in Palo Alto. He was a kind and wonderful man, beloved by many. Jay grew up in Seattle, the son of Blanche and Jacob Stone. He attended University of Washington, where he majored in journalism and engineering. During WWII, Jay enrolled in the Naval ROTC, and was called to active duty in 1943. He was deployed for two years aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific. He was with the fleet during the atom bomb explosion and in Tokyo Bay at the time of the peace signing. After the war, Jay earned a Masters in Engineering at UC Berkeley and went to work at Moffett Field as an engineer. He met his future wife, Carole Zimet, on a blind date and they were married in 1950. In 1956, the family moved to Los Altos and Jay started his own electronics sales rep firm, Jay Stone Associates, which he built and managed until his retirement in 1997. The firm is still thriving today. Jay was a pioneer in his field in Silicon Valley and established a culture of honesty and integrity for the company, which he was proud of. Well before he retired, Jay became active in volunteer work, including NASA education, Big Brother, Food Bank, and Palo Alto Clinic. Jay was beloved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. He is survived by his wife Carole, son David (Darryl), daughter Leslie (Shirl), as well as nieces Jackie (Selwyn) and Barbara (John) and their children Kristine, Karen, Elaine and Julia, as well as many lifelong friends and extended family.
